RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL ELECTRICIAN

The Residential/Commercial Electrican program is designed to help students decide if they would like to pursue a career as an electrician. It helps students get an early start with their training for that career. Students who do well in this program will be desireable as apprentice electricians. There is a demand for electricians and the pay is good. Residential electricians install electrical service meter boxes, circuit breaker panels, lighting and receptable circuits, special applicance circuits, and devices in homes according to the builder's blueprints and according to local, state, and national codes. In many cases they also install special cables for thermostats, telephones, televisions, intercoms, and computers. Commercial electricians perform work similar to that of residential electricians, however, commercial electrical work usually involves larger numbers of special codes & circuits as well as more complete circuits. These types of circuits are found in apartment buildings, stores, shopping centers, service stations, hospitals, etc.
