Description: Early Childhood I students will study the principles of early childhood development. Students will identify themes and develop skills in storytelling. They will also develop lesson plans in art, math, music, and science. A major emphasis of this course will involve students working in a lab setting helping preschool children develop skills in self-expression, self-worth, and having respect for others. The curriculum is designed to help students develop skills in managing a class of preschool-age children. The students practice their skills in the "Small World Preschool" which is operated in conjunction with the class Tuesday through Friday for 14 weeks each semester. If you are planning a career that involves working with young children, this class provides an excellent opportunity to start.
