Thank you!

The Homecoming 2008/50th KHS anniversary on Friday October 10th was a huge success.  We had over 700 alumni gather in the alumni tent Friday night throughout the evening, many taking a tour of KHS!  The playing of the DVD set, 50th Anniversary Kaneland Legacy/Memory Lane, was a real crowd pleaser.  There wasn’t a moment all evening without a group huddled in front of the T.V…..Thank you, Ralph Drendel, for producing the DVD and taking the time to stay in the tent and commandeer the T.V.!  The Knights won their game, the Sports Boosters out did themselves grilling up pork chops and brats, and the fireworks were spectacular!

Friday night’s events did not happen without incredible coordination and help from so many different groups!  The 50th committee wants to thank the following for their support and efforts:

KHS Student Council under the leadership of Javier Martinez.  Several of the student council members volunteered their time to give tours of KHS.  Alumni truly enjoyed talking/touring with our students!

Café 302 Students under the leadership of Christina Kenkel.  Thank you for the cookies – they were a big hit! Not a one remained by the end of the game.

Kaneland Maintenance Department – we couldn’t have done it without your help!  From tent/fence set up, electrical needs, to  helping us load coolers, etc.  We truly appreciate your gracious willingness to help with this event!

Transportation Department, Jim Ogle, and bus drivers thank you for moving all the buses to another location in order for us to utilize the bus parking lot!

Kaneland Sports Boosters for coordinating your efforts with the committee to feed this crowd!

Thank you also to Tony Valente and Leigh Jaffke for your input and willingness to work with us throughout the event!

The alumni finished out the weekend with a golf outing at Hughes Creek on Saturday morning; tours on Satuday and Sunday;  the dinner/dance at NIU Saturday night; and a potluck in the alumni tent at KHS on Sunday.

Alumni Challenge:
The Race for One Thousand Dollars

During the 2008-09 school year, Kaneland High School will be celebrating their 50th Anniversary with a variety of events.

One of these events has kicked off as the Alumni Celebration committee places a challenge on each graduating class from the past fifty years: Collect at least $1,000.00 per class.

Past alumni have already been hard at work raffling off items to raise money for their respected classes. The money raised for each class will be divided between an Alumni Legacy Fund to be used to enrich programs at Kaneland and an Alumni Association Fund to support the establishment of the Association.

To date, celebratory events will include a spectacular Homecoming Weekend starting with the Homecoming Football game against DeKalb and ending with a dinner/dance at the Duke Ellington Ballroom at Northern Illinois University. A “Pack the Place” night, Fine Arts Festival and Convocation, 5k Run and a golf outing are also in the works.

Which class will raise One Thousand Dollars first? Which class will raise the largest amount?  The gauntlet has been thrown, the challenge placed – Go Knights!

You can contribute online, or download and mail in the contribution form.
