Dress Code Reminder
Harter Middle School News | Posted MAY 17 2012
Spring has finally arrived and with it the warmer temperatures. Students and parents are reminded that the dress code for HMS states:
“Students may not dress in a manner that it extreme, immodest, or disruptive to the educational process.” (pg 22, HMS handbook)
And
“Students must make sure to:
2) Wear clothing that completely covers the body from shoulders to mid-thigh. The only exceptions are sleeveless, tailored shirts or blouses.” (pg 22, HMS handbook)
Students who are found to NOT be in adherence to the dress code will either be asked to change into PE clothes or call home for a change of clothing. Students will not be allowed to return to class until the clothing fits dress code standards.

Become a Knight of the Round Table
Harter Middle School News | Posted DEC 13 2011
Students at Harter Middle School can become a Knight of the Round Table (KORT) member. A KORT member is a student at Harter Middle School that completes 30 hours of community service outside of the school day between the beginning of their 6th grade year and the end of their 8th grade year. The KORT program was a long-standing program at Kaneland Middle School and was dropped due to unfortunate funding issues. HMS is proud to be re-instating this program with the help of the HMS PTO.
KORT members receive a shield after attaining the appropriate number of hours of documented community service. Additional hours are signified by adding a star to the shield for every 10 additional documented hours. Students in 7th and 8th grades will be given a prorated number of hours required to become members of KORT and receive the shield. 7th graders will need 20 hours and 8th graders will need 10 hours to become members of KORT. A community service log sheet will be uploaded to the digital backpack soon so that students can begin working over Winter Break if they so choose. More »

Harter Student Tipline
Harter Middle School News | Posted JAN 27 2011
Hey HMS students, did you ever want to report bullying, harassment, or other behaviors that concern you? Have you ever thought, “I want to tell someone about this, but I don’t want my friends to know.” Well, now there is a solution – the new HMS tip line. Harter Middle School is proud to announce the unveiling of a new tip line for students. Beginning Monday January 31, 2011, students will be able to text message, email or phone in tips or concerns about bullying and other behaviors. All you need to do is call or send a text to (630)557-9257, or email harter.tipline@gmail.com. In your message, please leave as many details as possible including the students involved, dates, and places of the occurrences. We would also like for you to leave your name so that if necessary, we can meet with you as well. Questions may be directed to any of the counselors. Please take this opportunity to help make HMS a great place to be.
