SMART START THURSDAYS

In the spirit of newness and communicating new change, please note the following:

SMART START is a late start for all students that will occur once a week, every Thursday at the high school.

This time is set aside for all teachers to collaborate and study and plan with their Kaneland Learning Communities, so classes will begin later one day a week. This late start for students begins tomorrow, August 23. This means that all students need to be in school by the start of 1st period on Thursdays which begins at 8:39 am.

Juniors and Seniors who drive or who have rides, need to be in school with time to spare to begin class at 8:39. Any freshman or sophomore is also invited to start the day later if they can get a ride. For those who ride the bus and who will get here at 7:20, students will have approximately an hour before class starts on Thursdays. Periodically, throughout the year, during this time, Student Services will sponsor meetings or workshops that will aid all students in planning for the future.

We will sponsor our first presentation tomorrow in the auditorium beginning at 7:40. Students who are here are invited as one of the options to come to this presentation. Tomorrow we will talk about SMART START, “Making High School Count,” and we will offer some information as to how to use our new “College/Career Readiness Center.” During this time, students also may have a seat in the cafeteria and converse with friends. The library will be also open for anyone wanting a QUIET study place. The only exception will be Fox Valley Career Center first session students who will be expected to be in their first session class everyday at 7:45am.

We will be communicating opportunities for students as we progress through the school year.

Questions about SMART START can be addressed to Assistant Principal, Diane McFarlin – 630-365-5100 ext. 208.
