Eighth Grade Literature Program
KHMS 8th Grade News | Posted AUG 19 2010
During the course of the 2010-2011 school year we may use or make available to students material in video or text form that may contain mature themes, content or language.
When appropriate, PG and PG-13 movies, clips of movies, or documentaries are used to enhance our curriculum or as a positive behavior incentive. These films may illustrate concepts such as literary terms that we are studying in class, enhance our understanding of themes that have emerged from our reading, or provide information on historical figures and time periods relevant to our studies.
Since students will be selecting their own materials and novels for independent study projects, we cannot review all of the novels for graphic language or questionable content. We could limit students’ choices to novels that we’ve previewed, but we do not want to limit students to a small selection of literature that may not appeal to their interests. Therefore, we cannot promise students won’t run across something that may not be appropriate for their maturity level. We will offer students literature of the highest quality by classic and contemporary authors who are highly acclaimed, winners of Nobel Prizes and National Book Awards. However, if you and your student, after reading a portion of the novel selected, find it offensive or inappropriate, we would be more than happy to assist in selecting another novel.
We want you to be aware of what your students may be viewing or reading.
Please review the attatched file for the available novels. More »
