Growth & Development

As of September 2006, the District had an enrollment of approximately 4,200 students broken down as follows: John Stewart-590; John Shields-616; Blackberry Creek-378; McDole-508; Middle School-946; High School-1096; Out-of-District Placements/Homebound-41. As is true of many school districts across the country, Kaneland's enrollment is growing. In the case of District 302, this is due to both the general demographic trend, as well as growth in housing in several locations across the District. In response to this growth, the district has been constructing new schools and additions.

The District is actively engaged in long term planning in order to be prepared for the changes that a growing enrollment may require. The Board of Education and District administration are working closely with the Villages and developers to monitor and plan for new classrooms. The Villages and District have also worked together to establish land-cash, impact and transition fees that apply to housing developments within Aurora, Elburn, Maple Park, Montgomery, North Aurora and Sugar Grove. Thus, development is paying some of the cost of providing the new classrooms and services necessitated by it.
